Vitamins
Vitamins are potent, essential, noncaloric, organic nutrients needed from foods in trace amount to perform specific body functions. They promote and regulate chemical reactions and processes needed for growth, reproduction and the maintenance of health and life.
* Vitamins in foods occur in small amounts and are needed by the body in small quantity as well. However, are equally crucial to attaining health as that of macronutrients.
* Vitamins mainly serve as facilitators of body processes. They themselves contribute no energy but they assist the enzymes to release energy from energy-yielding nutrients.
